NOIR CITY

July 21, 2016

First, we’re thrilled to be featured at Dru Ann’s wonderful Book Musings blog with a ‘Day in the Life’ post! You can spend the morning with Lillian Frost – and win a signed copy of Design for Dying!

We’re also hugely excited that, after a brief hiatus, the Noir City Film Festival has returned to Seattle! We’ve been attending ever since Eddie Muller first brought his roadshow to town. It kicks off this Friday and runs for a solid week, with double features each evening and matinees on the weekends. An amazing 18 films in all! We sat down with our friend Tony Kay of City Arts magazine and did a rundown of the line-up.

Our favorites, obviously, are the titles that will be screening next Tuesday, July 26, as part of Edith Head Night. Desert Fury is a truly unhinged delight, with Edith at her Technicolor best. And Sorry, Wrong Number is one of the great suspense films, boasting a peerless performance from Design for Dying featured player Barbara Stanwyck.

Don’t miss your chance to see these films on a big screen, accompanied by Eddie’s erudite introductions. We’ll be on hand Tuesday night at Seattle’s Egyptian Theater signing copies of Design for Dying before each show. Special thanks to Phinney Books for helping out.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t also recommend This Gun for Hire, showing on Saturday, July 23 at 2:30 pm. It’s not part of Edith Head night, but it features some of the craziest costumes of Edith’s career. Really, there’s not a bad film on the program. If you’re anywhere near Seattle, come on out and spend some time in the dark.
