To begin, a brief report on The Incredibles 2. Of course we saw it opening weekend—after our Edna Mode/Edith Head comparison, how could we not?—and of course we enjoyed it enormously. Our favorite part: the spontaneous round of applause from a packed theater when Edna first appeared onscreen. We didn’t start it (honest!) but were more than happy to join in when it did. Time for Edna and Jack-Jack to get their own movie, don’t you think?
The fun of the film came hard on the heels of some wonderful news. Dangerous to Know has been nominated for a Macavity Award! The members of Mystery Readers International have put us in amazing company with our fellow nominees for the Sue Feder Memorial Award for Best Historical Novel.
Sue Feder Memorial Award for Best Historical Novel
Cast the First Stone by James W. Ziskin
Dangerous to Know by Renee Patrick
The Devouring by James R. Benn
In Fairleigh Field by Rhys Bowen
Racing the Devil by Charles Todd
A Rising Man by Abir Mukherjee
It’s an honor simply being part of that list, one that’s also full of familiar faces. We had the pleasure of doing an event alongside the Todds (the talented mother and son team of Caroline and Charles) at Bouchercon in Toronto last year, and Jim Ziskin has become a good friend since relocating to Seattle. We hope to see them and the rest of this wonderful field at Bouchercon in St. Petersburg, Florida later this year. Here’s the complete list of Macavity nominees.
